Oliver Wendell Holmes once said, “Love is the master key that opens the gates of happiness.” Was Holmes implying that a happy marriage brings happiness or was he suggesting that happiness is unachievable without love? A New York's best selling author, who's books have sold more than 14 million copies worldwide including the widely successful book Happy for No Reason and as one of the nation's leading experts on happiness and love, Marci Shimoff and I discussed 10 simple but fascinating facts about achieving personal happiness.
Shimoff embarked on a quest to uncover the truth about human happiness and how it relates to love. The book Happy for No Reason explains the root of happiness and how it affects the psyche, while providing step-by-step solutions to achieving and sustaining personal happiness.
HAPPINESS IS THE ROAD
There is no road to happiness; happiness is the road. Before setting out on a journey to find her higher self, Shimoff seemed to have it all—she had a world-renowned career, a happy marriage and a healthy relationship with friends: “I had set goals for myself when I was a young adult and I achieved all those goals. I had thought that when I achieved those goals, that would be all I needed... Well, while I was happy to have all those things, they didn’t bring me the happiness I was looking for,” reveals Shimoff.
Science has recently confirmed that a person can improve his or her overall level of happiness, and that it’s achieved by shifting your inner world; “Happiness is an inside job!” Armed with scientific proof, Shimoff explains that though you can’t secure happiness with money or merit, you can strive to be happier for no reason.
