Looking for a meaningful gift?
On this mother’s day, celebrate all mothers and grandmothers, especially yours. But think it through first. Generally, so many gifts have very little connection and meaning to the recipient, if mothers were to trade them with each other – they wouldn’t know the difference.
If you are looking for a great and meaningful gift idea for mom, we’ve gathered some of our favorites, from mother-daughter spa days to great, new hand-made gifts she’ll cherish. This will save you from the wrath you're about to experience if you do not start planning your mother’s day quickly.
JEWELRY VS. A DAY OFF
Mothers are girls at heart and what girl doesn’t appreciate a tastefully selected piece of jewelry like this "Mother's Embrace" Engraved Personalized Birthstone Ring. Research her birthstone here. However, if you were to ask women themselves what they want for their mother’s day, 88% would say they want a day off on a weekend, without feeling guilty.
Make it clear that she can do whatever she wants, go for a hike, a walk, take a long-quite bath, watch a recorded program or see a movie she enjoys. Avoid gilt trips and long faces, no matter how tempting.
If being alone on Mother’s day isn't what she would want, then celebrate Mother’s day as a family, and start by serving her breakfast in bed. See next idea.
BREAKFAST IN BED VS. NICELY SET TABLE
Many mothers could appreciate the idea of breakfast in bed, but they also couldn’t stop thinking about all the crumbs in their bed. So instead, go into a little more effort with a nicely set breakfast table and make sure you are the one cleaning up afterwards.
The one thing that you could bring to bed to wake her up is a Skinny Starbucks Frappuccino or her favorite Starbucks drink with a book she’ll enjoy reading.
Moms always try to keep high energy and to help boost that energy, make a nutritious, healthy breakfast. Kick-start her day with banana-pecan pancakes. For a mother's day special touch, make the pancake in a form of a flower. The mashed banana makes them a softer pancake than the usual sort.
Delight her with easy to prepare sweet treats made with fresh kiwis. For this delightful and full of vitamins dessert all you’ll need is kiwi puree and some sugar.
If she is not a huge fan of kiwi, try this incredibly delicious Strawberry and Honey Sorbet. She is going to love it and appreciate the low calories.

CHOCOLATE VS. MEMORIES
You can replace Govida chocolates this Mother’s day with a Jar full of special memories you’ve shared this year. Write short notes about the things you’ve done together, how it made you feel, what she said that made a difference in your life, the family traditions you love, the best advice you appreciated from her. She will certainly be surprised about a few of them.
Each note will spark a conversation and she will go back to them over and over. All of theses little things do matter a lot to moms, so take your time to write a few. For example: “Remember you told me that time heals all? It truly does” “I loved it when you used to ask about the highs and lows of our day, every day” “Thank you for reminding me to be present in the moment and pay attention to natural things around me, trees, birds, stars.. it had truly changed my life”
NICE CARD VS. MEANINGFUL BOOK
Cards, no matter how special, do not last, while books always do. We’ve picked a book beautifully illustrated with a poignant love story that every generation will enjoy. A Little Something contains a timeless message about love and legacies across generations making it a meaningful Mother’s day gift. The heartwarming story is beautifully complemented by the richly-detailed, golden watercolor illustrations of award-winning artist Laurie McGaw.
POEM VS. CHECK LIST
Another great Mother's day gift is asking her what she would like. Many moms are rarely asked and they would love a chance to help you get it right. Download this card for free, print it and let her check off the items she wants.
Also, do not underestimate the value of a nice conversation this Mother's day. You probably realize that you've been so focused on your own life that you haven't really taken the time to get to know your mom like you would a good friend? Say it to her. Make her feel that she is important to you.
There is always a lot to learn if you know what questions to ask and know how to listen. According to Mary Marcdante, a communication and stress management expert, and an award-winning international speaker, who has been interviewed on NBC, ABC, Fox News, Oxygen, and in The Wall Street Journal, Glamour, and AARP Magazin. The Nicest Thing You Can Say To Your Mother: Mom, I love you because you...
"Of all the comments I received from mothers I interviewed, the one request that came up over and over again was how much Moms want to hear "I love you." When you can add specific reasons, memories, and details to your statements it strengthens your message and helps anchor good feelings in both of you." - says Mary Marcdante.
"If you really want to take Mother's Day over the top, record your Mom's answers and put them in a homemade printed book for you with pictures of the two of you. Give this book to her or just to perk up your next visit. Happy Mother's Day." adds Mary Marcdante.
FRESH FLOWERS VS. PHOTO BOUQUET
Particularly use the photos of your childhood, a collage glued back to back, creating color shaped with colored construction paper. Slip them on the plastic sticks used to hold the card in floral arrangements creating different angles and heights. You can add some ribbons or a few fresh flowers with it.
If you have children, a super fast and very cute painted hand bouquet can be done the same day by having each of you put your hand prints on the paper with different colors, then add a bow and stems alone with little hearts in the center of the hands.
